Roots

We spend just few days in Nagarkot, where the weather in a day changed between chilly hail storms and spicy sun. We didn't walk much around, but we enjoyed the views playing sudoku and sipping on masala milk teas. From time to time, we watched helicopters pass by, and we wondered where they were going with goosebumps... the recent avalanches in the Annapurna (remains of the Hudhud typhoon coming from India) left not only trekkers but guides and porters buried under the snow. One hail stone here means a violent storm over there.

Pasamos solo unos dias en Nagarkot, donde el clima en un dia cambiaba entre unas frias borrascas de granizo y un sol picante. No caminamos mucho al rededor, pero disfrutamos de las vistas jugando sudoku y bebiendo tés de masala con leche. De vez en cuando, mirabamos los helicopteros pasar, preguntandonos hacia donde iban con la piel de gallina... las recientes avalanchas en los Annapurna (resultantes del tifon Hudhud proveniente de India) han dejado no solo excursionistas si no guias y portadores enterrados bajo la nieve. Una bola de granizo aqui significa una violenta tormenta alla. 

Being in the fields of Nepal (and even in cities) makes you realize at what point electricity and hot water are luxury items that we are used to. Here electricity is only available some hours during the day, in a rather erratic timetable. 

Estar en el campo en Nepal (y aun en ciudades) te hace dar cuenta hasta que punto la electricidad y el agua caliente son lujos cotidianos a los que estamos acostumbrados. Aqui la electricidad no funciona sino unas cuantas horas en el dia, en unos horarios un tanto aleatorios.

We bought our delicious tea from a little tea place/ bar runned by Suresh Dongol. He has very interesting histories to tell while he brews the tea with dedication and an eye for detail; he will bring fresh milk and grate ginger to make your tea as fresh as can be. In his newly-opened shop we found good music, and a welcoming atmosphere where Suresh is always laughing and preparing drinks with friends and those passing through. Originally from Kathmandu, he named his place "Roots" because Nagarkot is where he wanted to stay and make something grow after years of wandering.

Comprabamos nuestro delicioso té en un pequeño salon de té / bar dirigido por Suresh Dongol. Tiene muchas historias interesantes que contar mientras prepara el té con especial dedicacion y sentido del detalle; traera leche fresca y gengibre recien rallado para hacer el te mas fresco posible. En su tienda recientemente abierta, encontramos buena musica y una atmosfera acogedora donde Soresh esta siempre riendo y preparando bebidas para sus amigos y los pasantes. Originario de Katmandu, llamo su lugar "Roots" (Raices) porque Nagarkot es donde queria quedarse y hacer crecer algo después de andar años errando.

Bye bye Nagarkot

We left Nagarkot to return to Kathmandu for some days in order to celebrate Tihar before heading south to the lowlands of Terai, and excited about seeing the elephants in Chitwan.

Dejamos Nagarkot para regresar a Katmandu por unos dias para ver las celebraciones de Tihar antes de irnos al sur hacia las tierras bajas del Terai, y emocionados de ver pronto los elefantes en Chitwan.
